The Substack Marketing Funnel
How to turn your Substack publication into a marketing funnel that turns viewers into dollars.
I'm seeing a lot of growth on Substack.
So much so that I stopped posting everywhere else and made Substack my official “Social Media.”
(I still cross-posting to Facebook because I've done a lot of networking over the years)
Every day I'm testing and experimenting in search of new ways to grow.
Recently,
I found a new way to turn my Substack into a funnel.
This will help you think of Substack completely differently.
Whether you’ve been posting for a while or considering launching your first publication it may help shift the way you view the platform.

The Substack funnel flow.
>> Views.
>> Followers.
>> Subscribers.
>> Paid subscribers.
We turn eyeballs into followers.
We convert followers into subscribers.
We give subscribers a reason to pull out their credit cards.
And here's how we achieve this through our content.
Top Of Funnel: Substack Notes.
The growth engine.
Notes are one of the most powerful ways to get attention and increase reach right now.
Your Notes are what get viewers smashing the follow button beside your name.
Start here:
Post 1-3 Notes per day.
Focus on creating Notes that get Restacked.
Middle Of Funnel: Authority/Story-based Notes and Posts.
Convert followers into subscribers.
Once someone follows you they will begin seeing your Notes in their activity feed.
We must give them a reason to Subscribe through great content and sharing that content to our Notes because followers do not see our posts.
It’s important to note that followers do not see your posts unless they explicitly go to your publication. Hence the importance of driving people to our posts.
Start here:
Post 1 (or more) posts per week.
Share your posts to your Notes min 1-3x.
Explore collaborations with other publications.
Bottom Of Funnel: Profit posts.
Monetize your Subscribers.
"Profit" posts are designed to drive the bottom line of your business. This can be done through Substack or through pulling people off Substack to your products, services, and/or email list.
Start here:
Use Chat to build community.
Paywalled content so juicy people join.
Posts that are "sales pages" for your offer(s).
Optimize your profile to properly promote your stuff.
Promote your offer and lead magnet weekly in your Notes.
The secret sauce that makes it work.
It comes down to two things:
Consistency.
Listening to the data to improve content.
We must be consistent for long enough to see it work.
I often get DMs of people who ask me for help growing. When I view their profile I see that they have been on Substack for less than 1 month or don’t actively post. Content is a long-term consistency game that compounds with time.
We must pay attention to what works, and what doesn’t so that over time our content becomes inline with what people want to read.
Hope this helps you on your Substack journey.

This is a really great roadmap, especially as a relative newbie! Thanks for sharing your insights, Landon. I'll definitely implement.
The problem IS from followers to subscribers. Maybe I have a solution.
