I’ve definitely been guilty of writing the piece first and slapping on a headline last. Starting with the headline makes way more sense since it sets the focus early.
The Big Idea questions are a great way to sharpen the angle, and the AI system adds just the right structure without overcomplicating it. Great ideas for my own workflow. Thanks!
That's how I started too. And it could just be preference? But I find article first makes it feeling like shoving a circle into a square hole with the title. Subtle changes in the title change the takeaway from the article, so it's easier to start with it in my opinion.
Excellent post. Thank you so much! One quick question - why not include the " Compare the headlines to your historical top headline format" step right at the beginning when asking ChatGPT to produce 30 headlines? What are your thoughts for including it at the end?
It makes total sense to focus on the headline first since it's also the subjectline of the email Landon. Important detail that I forgot until reading this cause I'm normally a write first then figure out the headline. But hey, if you can't get them to click, then all that writing is for nothing. 👏
Totally, I wish we could separate the two. Because headlines for SS and SEO are not usually the same as what gets opened as a subject line but we make due!
Soooo, freaking TRUE! It's a totally different way of thinking on both.
Then again, with the current SEO changes, that might be changing in general. AI is pulling the relevant words from the copy now, so SEO is becoming less and less important compared to having the right words in the message.
Google (I think) has started slapping AI content for people that were trying to game the system, and people's search habits are changing now going to AI instead of Google. Interesting to see how this all shifts
I had 2 people reach out and invite me to be on their podcast last week. Since I want connected to them, I asked how they found me. Both came from recommendations from AI. 👏
Very helpful, thank you!
You're welcome RJ

You definitely could. There is not right or wrong way to do it.

Ohh that is pretty cool!
I just go with the last one my memory is left with. But depending how much I have felt for the copy, I’ll put in more time.
If it works, it works!
Thanks for sharing these terrific ideas Landon
